Nicola di Russo Sr. (1885-1975) affectionately known in
Salle as Papà Nicola, after being appreciated as the inventor of the double spiral shaped sheep-gut string, was forced like many other string makers from
Salle to
Naples.
Has became the founder of the firm in 1923 and the depositary of his ancestor's tradition. His son, Astro and his grand son Nicola Jr., then continued to work with sheep gut following the ancient methods handed down through centuries, thus creating, with the collaboration of the most prestigious musicians, a string called Armonica that they dedicated to their ancestor.
